With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility中华武术献武德，正宗狮艺扬狮城，鹤鸣千里万年春，艺胆雄风传友谊 May 30 Weekly ReviewWeek 13 is coming to an end to the fifth year of my stint in Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) as a cadet.Mock papers formed the first four days of week 13/39,with papers from the more prestigious schools like Catholic High School e.t.c.The standards were damn high that i failed marginally for the papers!There are no Physical Training(PT) for the week,and some of the days were having CAT-2,or drizzling.CAT-1 is raining cats and dogs,while CAT-3 is heavy raining with a little flooding.I went for the debrief on monday,with initially the four representatives only,including me.I went for D&T lessons after working hours,around 1350hs-1630hrs.Initially it should be until 1700hrs,but don't know why the teachers refused to extend to 1700hrs,maybe due to the booking out of the instructors at 1630hrs.Week 13/39 is also the first week in which Plt Alpha,Coy5 had her internal conflict,which involves me as one of them.The class idiots,namely Jiawen,Weiliang,Benjamin Cho were some sort of 'high' and the first person simply overturned my table and cracked my table at a corner,while they are still laughing and giggling so freely.I was so freaking angry already,and I duly reported to the School Sergeant-Major(SSM) Mr Kenneth Ng,who handed over to Mr John Lim to investigate.I thought that Jiawen will deny the matter,but to my amazement,he admitted it instantly,and was fined S$8 for the repair,and this incident happened on 20th May.On this Thursday,Mr John Lim attempted to break the ice between me and the class,so the solution is that they are to leave alone with immediate effect,and i was not to do the same thing,and I happily agreed the solution.Actually,Mr John Lim had backed me a lot on many occasions,and he even decided to award me with five merit points,promoting me to the 'very good' cohort.i felt so sheepishly for these things to happen. April 17 Chinese New YearHappy New Year!!!My CNY mood begins on the 23th Jan,last friday.I had lessons on friday,three D&T lessons...then recess at 10:00am...then concert.First item is our CCHY Festive Drum Troupe performing an old routine named "awakened."This is one of the routines performed during the 2006 CO/festive drums China tour.the sec fours are there also...like Iman,next up is Wushu Troupe(lion dance is unavailable to perform due to unforeseen circumstances).They performed a series of routines which include spear,sword,pole...well,yingjie,the small little prefect,was the one performing the spear routine...damn nice...the horse stance,quick moves...are a contrast to the traditional hong quan...well,our school is learning contemporary wushu...the festive drum and wushu troupe is the highlight of the day!!!then it is up ti the dance,CO and band to perform le...my cohort,both 5A and 5B are the highlight of the end too...The day ends with the PSG,teachers and staff went up on stage to sing two CNY songs...then Clarlynn suggested that the sec 5s stand up and join the fun...then half of the cohort didn't stand up sia...either embarrassed or their oesteoporosis attacked again...anyway,we played damn crazy...in fact,the school turned their eyes on us!!!then after CCHY,i went back to APS,where i saw qing de people performing twin lions and a big head...pretty entertaining...but the kids in anderson were too wild... February 14 Exercise IPPFebruary 14th was a memorable occasion as the whole school is trying out the In Place Protection, or IPP. This is the first time the whole battalion is trying the exercise in school is implementing the exercise during my five years in Chung Cheng Hugh School (Yishun).the week before, the T/IC,MS Tan, HOD of Mathematics, had already briefed us on the exercise already. Before this exercise is the annual temperature taking exercise, which I am the sole joker, whose thermometer is not working on that day. Yesterday I packed my full pack to report ‘mob’ today, and did an ‘item check’ before lights out at 0000. I reported ‘mob’ quite early, around 0645-0650. Then I bought a cup of iced Milo from the drinks stall…at first I want to buy coffee, my usual drink, but the other auntie, or hawker have not reached the school yet, so I had to drink Milo. After that, I read today’s Straits Times in school, which featured MINDEF, and other ministries. Everything was going on fine, until the reading period, when I have to ask for take 5 from Mr. Lim Hwee Chong, my D&T T/IC. Then after I took 5, I ran down to find my full pack, then he said that my platoon mates took my pack up for me already, so I quickly ran up to my bunks. Before the exercise, I asked if anybody would like to refill their water bottle, then Hajar wanted, so I ran and refilled the water bottles immediately. But when I ran back, my platoon mates locked the bunk doors, leaving me outside alone, luckily Wenhui opened the door and let me in, thanks heavens. Then after that, our platoon commander for three consecutive years from 2007-present, Mr. John Lim arrived at the bunks, followed by Mr. Thong, whose voice has a distinctive Malaysian accent. The strength is as follows, total strength 19, present strength 15, 3 absentees and 1 casualty. At 0800, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers on duty started to spray smoke at the compound, to create the impression of a chemical attack. Wei Liang and I quickly taped up the doors with the masking tape and sealed up the gaps with towels in the IPP kit, the others taped and covered the windows with masking tape and thrash bags. As a senior specialist trained in this, I knew what to do during this exercise. Then Wenhui and I are instructed to inspect the doors by Mr. Lim. In 5 minutes as set by the T/IC, IPP, the classroom was sealed up for the exercise, so Mr. Lim debriefed us on the exercise. As I am listening to the debrief, I kept a lookout for any gaps on the doors and windows. Mr. Lim shared his experience when he was doing his reservist duties two decades ago. For my platoon, I give it a fail, as the sealing was poorly done, and the toilet was not set up by the 5 minutes deadline set by T/IC, IPP. Should the SCDF officers spray smoke at the doors and windows, the bunks will be filled with smoke slowly. Anyway, I resecured a number of the gaps on the windows and doors. Failure. situated at Clementi West St 2 to help in the 2008年传统狮艺观摩会 at 1600hrs.Initially I wanted to go myself,but my aunt insisted that she send me there,so I had to follow suit.Anyway,I arrived at ther just on time,and I used my phone to call shifu,who is at there already,he is still his old self,with his pot-belly and his nicely combed side parting,hahas!Immediately,he brought me to their room for keeping their equipments.Wow!You should have seen it,the place is very well furinshed,and there is a nice drawer for their lions,uniforms and their weapon stands,then the old lions,the dragon fishes and the only unicorn is on top.They even have a room specially for the instruments lor,for example the drums of all sizes,cymbals and gongs for lion and dragon dances,and their tools.They have a purple nine-pole luminous dragon,put beside a pair of drawers for the magazines like wutan(magazine published by Singapore Wushu Dragon And Lion Dance Federation or SWDLDF),anniversary magazines of the other troupes and photo albums,then shifu called me to find a pair of black shoes that are suitable for myself,and I found a pair of traditional 'eagle-claw' shoes,and that is the first time I wore this kind of shoes!It is quite nice to wear,but it is difficult to put on,as there are an array of hooks on the side to the shoe which acts as the shoe laces.After changing to the West Coast CC attire,I ran out and wandered around,and I bumped into a member of West Coast CC,and he said hello to me,but I just nodded my head as I thougth he is blind lor,so bad.At the basketball court,I saw four Hoksan lions,two red and two yellow,the yellow lions are similar to the ones in my school,except that the nose of the lion is a little bit different,and the hoksan lions are used for the welcoming the participating teams.There are a total of seven teams,they are Singapore Nanyang Huang Shi Chung Huay (黄氏总会龙狮体育会),Singapore Weijin Dragon&Lion Dance Association (威劲体育会)Hweeli was in this team,Singapore Wenyang Sports Association (文扬龙狮运动协会),Yeung Ching Scouts Group (养正童军公开团),Singapore Hokkiao Athletics Association (鹤桥体育会),Hequan Wushu Dragon&Lion Dance Troupe (鹤权武术醒狮团) and Stamford Dragon&Lion Dance Troupe (史丹福龙狮团).The first few teams arrived at around 1800hrs,all teams perform southern lion,except Stamford performing 24 seasons drum and Wenyang performing northern lion.I was in the red lion,and we welcomed the lions.It is very tired lor!You know the horse stances and the posture,very tiring,have to show the right posture,you know.But before that,some of the Huang Shi Chung Huay people that arrived earlier is practising their dragon drumming,then some of the West Coast people suddenly wanted to play the Hoksan drumming,then we play suit lor,then I volunteered to play the full set,that was the first time I played on the drum cart!!!It was very nice to play on it,the cymbalists were shocked from the patterns lor,very 'big' patterns,even I was fun lor!The first event of the day was a series of Hoksan drumming,requested by my shifu,then it is 养正童军公开团 to perform.Their item is 金玉满堂迎牛年,some sort of a well green.It features eight instrumentalists,a big head buddha and a lion.Nothing much of it,but the big head is very interactive lor...hahas.Next is 鹤桥体育会 performing 桥底青,very simple,and the lion seems to be quite slow,when the percussionists were already playing,but the lion is still standing there.Coming up is 鹤权武术醒狮团 performing 过桥.It was the same props featured on the 56th Issue of Wutan,no green,but it is very dangerous,the bridge is not secured tight,from what I see,the bridge may slide back and forth,and the lion may fall.Next is National northern lion champion,文扬龙狮运动协会 performing 活佛戏狮.It is the same routine they played on the Taka Lion Dance Grand Finals.It has a white lion and a black lion,and Jigong,the famous Buddhist monk.It starts with the lions sleeping,then Jigong started playing with the lions,the white lion is the good one,while the black lion is the villain,locked up at first,then Jigong irritated the blackie,then it escaped,then a war started.very nice,and the props are very realistic.Next is the prize presentation,all the teams got a plaque,including Shifu,he got an individual plaque!Congrats!!!Next is 史丹福龙狮团 performing 节令鼓.They created a storyline that is not so nice,it featured rain!!!Nothing much also.Next is 黄氏总会龙狮体育会 performing 盆絲阵.Huang Shi's routine is the something like what Republbc Poly,West Coast CC and Singapore Poly performs in this year's traditional preliminaries.At first it is a faulless performance,until when the lion leaps across the gap between the mountains,the spider suddenly dropped from the cobweb,then shifu,who was beside me,called me to pick it up.At the same time,another Huang Shi member came forward to put the spider higher,for the lion to reach.But when the lion was about to eat the spider,the lion is unable to take it,so they have no green to eat,but they are very flexible,despite without the green,they still continue the routine.After Huang Shi is 西海岸民众联络所文化艺术团 performing 仕林祭塔青,a wushu green.It derives from the final part of the 'Madam White Snake,'when Xu Shilin,the only son of the White Snake,topped the national examinations,and went to Leifeng Pagoda to visit his mother,who is being trapped in it by Fahai,the monk.In this green,the lion is Xu Shilin,the pole is the Snake,and pig basket as the Pagoda.West Coast also featured a Big Head Buddha,and another member who performs a pole routine.West Coast's performance is quite nice.Last but not least,we have 威劲体育会 performing 百花齐放,狮艺传扬.This is one of their competition and GMH routines,it featurea a Batik lion and a basket.Weijin's performance is also quite nice,but they have a minor slip.After their peformance,we have a group photo,but the whole group is too big for the camera!!!After that,we bid farewell to the teams and send them off.I was in the lion again,and I waved godbye to Hweeli,who is in weijin,in the lion head.Finally,the West Coast people had to clean the mess,a court full of those coloured paper pieces sia!!!But it was very rewarding...And shifu says that they will have another GMH coming right up next year,hope I can request Shifu to let me perform either a bridge routine or mountain,or at least a 3 drum routine!!!But there is one thing that i feel that i am one darn stupid idiot...Before I left the place,I thought that I brought only two phones,but I don't know why I thought that I lost one of the phones,and I spent an hour or two 'finding' the phone...Laugh Out Loud!!!Anyway,the dvd is out at dexing at $15 only...must call there hor,otherwise no stocks for you...see ya December 20 Results...Hurray!!!I have passed the checkpoint to secondary five 2009!!!After six months of slacking,and four months of endurance lectures,i made it as the most senior students of Chung Cheng High Yishun...next year my platoon sure will have less than 20 guys...at most 20 lor...hope our platoon commander is mr lim again...hahas...love him lor...then our PTI mr kenneth ng again...hahas...damn fit and macho lor...hahas...anyway,my result is i can go to the West Coast CC GMH later...hahas December 17 ResultsFor the CCHY Sec4NA people,remember to take your results tomorrow at CCHY AVA room,1400hrs in full school uniform...don't miss it...hope that i can make it so that i can reunite with Sec5/09...all the best...too bad can't meet Charis tomorrow...haiz...all the best to her too!!!
